Saturday Solving:
Discovered Attack for the … Draw?!

WELCOME TO SATURDAY SOLVING!
Look for new puzzles here every two weeks. Each will include the answer to the previous position and a new one to ponder.

SEE LAST WEEK’S POSITION

Last week we posed an interesting problem. The task: imprison the opponent’s army indefinitely. If you haven’t yet solved the exercise (or haven’t seen it and want to give it a try!), you can find the most recent Saturday Solving at this link. And now, on to the solution!

I want to impress upon the reader that only the idea 6. f6!, imprisoning the black army, needed to be seen. The rest is just details! And now, let’s move on to the next position up for grabs:

White’s situation seems dire: he has a rook and bishop for queen and two pawns! It will take something big for the first player to climb back into the game.

Luckily for us, we have not only the benefit of the first move, but also a potential discovered check on our side. Having said that, how does white exploit the momentary vulnerability of the second player to scoop up the draw in miraculous fashion?

As always good luck and feel free to submit your answer in the comments below!
